November 2016 ATHLETE OF THE MONTH – Danielle Maxwell

  • I’ve been at CF Plus for two years now and I have fallen in love with CrossFit, It’s given me that fire in my belly to achieve my goals. I was getting sick of the spin class at Mingara and Myla Mills suggested I come along to a CrossFit class, I did and it was the most disgusting body destroying thing I had ever done in my life! Halfway through the first session, I told myself no way I’m coming back to this! But after we’d finished I had a feeling of accomplishment, pushing myself past any previous limits I had put on myself, it was really a liberating feeling.
  • My biggest change within myself is that I am feeling like I did when I was in my early to mid-20 when I felt my best, in shape, strong and fit. I just wanted to feel like that healthy, capable person again. My journey thus far has been nothing short of amazing. Instead of being defeated at how far I had to go I’ve used the challenge to regain that “Badass” feeling again.
  • My favourite movement of choice would be clean and jerk, I love getting up a weight that is something worthy of a fist pump.
  • My least favourite Crossfit movement would be a toss up between wall balls and thrusters, for me, they both result in devastating quad burning consequences. Yuck!
  • Squats! Chasing rock hard glutes, but I’ve found them to be faster than I am

  • I would prefer to run than a row, even though I am not very fast at running I like to get outdoors in the fresh air.
  • Before I started CrossFit there was a long list of things that I never thought would ever be possible. This year I have conquered the rope climb I never thought I would ever get up that dam rope. Weightlifting and hitting new PRs has been so much fun and learning to master the finer points of lifts in order to get closer to where I want to be.
  • I don’t usually drink anything except when I go to SuperSupps on my way home and order a protein shake. My favourites are the Wolverine or the Bethernator.
  • My favourite cheat meal would be a good bowl of spaghetti and meatballs just like Nona made with lots of parmesan cheese. Finger licking good! So yummy!
  • I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, going to the beach and cooking yummy meals for my family.
  • Cappuccino for me on full-fat milk, please!
  • Bacon and eggs da-bomb!
  • I think my absolute favourite thing about CrossFit Plus is its ability to literally shove me out of my comfort zone. I haven’t mastered everything, not even close, but just attempting things I didn’t think were possible (I’m talking to you, rope climbs and multiple toes to bar) builds confidence. Even when I fail! Why? Well, because I had the courage to try and one day I will succeed. The thing I enjoy most at CrossFit Plus is the community. I enjoy catching up with the crew and seeing so many inspirational people show up daily and give 100 %, we all push each other to be stronger and faster every day, but more importantly, I am so humbled every time I see everyone come together in the box to help each other out. I feel incredibly blessed to be part of the CF Plus family, Pitts has established an incredible facility and works hard to meet all the needs of the CF Plus members. My coaches’ uncle Pete, Marty and Corey are second to none, each coach offers something unique and different, they truly believe in us even when we don’t believe in ourselves. I am looking forward to achieving my goals in the year to come as I continue my CrossFit Plus journey.
