”Humble, Hungry, Happy”
– Ben Bergeron
I started CrossFitting back in 2009 with Jason Haywood, Mick sure & Steve Wilis, aka Commando Steve. After a very severe car accident, I found CrossFit and used it as my form of rehabilitation. Before CrossFit, I was a Triathlete and I was an ocean videographer.
My favourite aspects of training at Human are the people, the atmosphere, friendly coaching staff, its all-inclusive environment housing all walks of life, our stay at home mums, and those with pure weight loss goals to our competitors.
If I could only take one piece of exercise equipment with me to a deserted island I would take a Dumbbell because I believe it is so universal for both cardio and strength training. You can do so much with it and gets you out of the sagittal plane that a Barbell creates. I have been very sporty my whole life, playing numerous different sports on the social club level. Back in the day, I used to play Baseball at an Australian level, Basketball at a representative state level, Shot Pot at a high school state level, and I also competed in Bodyboarding on an international level internationally.
Outside the gym I regularly surf, I love the ocean. I enjoy spearfishing and going on trail runs. Just activities in general. One of my favourite quotes is, “We don’t stop playing because we got old, we get old because we stop playing.” Off the top of my head, I would have to say “American Beauty” or “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” are among my favourite movies, so many good movies.
I don’t really have one but If was to say, I would say my all-time favourite album is Generationwhy
It is a toss-up between Japanese, Mexican & BBQ for my favourite cuisine. I just love good food!
What are you waiting for, Human Fitness is not intimidating, and I believe it is one of the most friendly environments. Yes, we train and believe in the CrossFit methodology, which we believe is for everyone. Come in and surround yourself with like-minded people all helping and working with each other to achieve their goal.
My training goal would be to be able to, yet again, be able to perform a standing back somersault.
Mick Fanning is one of my many inspirations.

Joe is a Coach who has been training at Human for over 5 years after going off a friend’s recommendation to give it a go. Outside of the gym, he loves to cycle, get in the ocean and endurance style running. And let’s not forget his passion for chess…
“You don’t “find” time to do what is important YOU MAKE TIME. GO”
I started training at Human Fitness in 2015 if my memory serves me correctly. Through all its different changes over the years, I still find a reason to show up and do my best!
I decided to start and give it a go after a friend’s recommendation.
Before I was introduced to training at Human and the Crossfit methodology, I was training mostly endurance and adding in some weights here and there.
My favourite aspect of training at Human is the people. It makes training that much more enjoyable when you have a good group to support you!
If I was stuck on a deserted island and only had one piece of equipment to exercise with it would be an assault bike. I just like to get it over and done with!
I played soccer in my younger years and grew up on motorbikes and raced motocross at club level for about 10 years.
Outside of the gym and when I am not training I love to swim and get in the ocean when I can and I also love to cycle.
My favourite movie of all time is Inglorious Bastards.
If I was stranded on a deserted island and only could have one album with me if would have to be Coming From Reality By Rodriguez. The best!
My favourite cuisine would have to be Mexican. Yum Yum.
Some advice I would give to someone new to Human Fitness and the CrossFit Methodology is to just trust the process, learn the technique and good things will come.
My training goals for 2020 is to compete in a Triathlon and run a sub 20min 5k
I am lucky that everyone around me really inspires me. It is so good to have so many good people in my life!
My favourite quote would have to be “You don’t “find” time to do what is important YOU MAKE TIME. GO”

Ralphy Boi is a dedicated family man who has been training the CrossFit methodology for over 2 years. Training at Human has fueled his passion for self-improvement and being the best possible version of himself. He loves hot chippies.
“The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.”
– Walt Disney
I started training at Human Fitness in April 2019, after moving back home after 5 years in Sydney I needed a new gym to call home and decided to give it a go at Human Fitness.
I have been lifting weights for about 15 years and training CrossFit for 2 years but since coming to Human I have found a new level of passion with my training which has encouraged me to step it up a gear. I have a new drive to improve and be the best I can.
The best thing about Human – I LOVE the coaches, LOVE the crew, LOVE the community!
If I could take one piece of exercise equipment to a deserted island it would have to be Kettlebell – The amount of different exercises you can do with a KB is phenomenal. Absolute must have for any deserted island. Love a KB snatch to be honest.
I played Rugby League for The Entrance Tigers for 15 years, came up through the ages and finished playing 2 years of first grade and then finished in reserve grade for the Terrigal 5 years ago.
Outside the gym I love to surf, go rock fishing, motorbike riding and ritual Sunday afternoon walks along the lake with my little daughter, wife and 2 doggies.
My favourite movie of all time would have to be Batman (ANY AND EVERYONE)!
If I was stuck on a desert island and could only take one musical album with me it would have to be Polaris – The death of me.
Do Hot Chips Count as a meal? Hot chippies are my favourite.
My advice I would you give to someone new to Human Fitness and the CrossFit Methodology is just commit and trust the process! Most of all, if you’re ever unsure, just ask the question. The coaches are all here to help!
My training goals for 2020 is to focus on my technique above all else and recover well.
The people I look to for inspiration are Kevin Hart, Noah Olsen, Billie Ralph (my daughter) and Coach Pitts.
My favourite quote would have to be “ The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing” – Walt Disney.

A Registered Nurse working in Intensive Care. Alex has been training at Human Fitness since 2014. She is a CrossFit level 1 Trainer with a passion for training and overall well being. She loves the structure and overall benefits of the CrossFit methodology and the challenge that comes along with it.
“Just keep going. Good things are to come.”
I started training at Human Fitness 2014 when it was originally CrossFit Plus. Over the years it has gone through a few name changes but it still is the amazing gym i first fell in love with and feels like home.
I decided to give it a go after encouragement from a good friend Martin Bowden who I was doing personal training with at the time and was also a coach. I had been thinking about it for so long and was a bit scared but just decided to give it a go.
Before I started training at Human and using the CrossFit methodology I was just doing general gym training. In hindsight I didn’t have much guidance or knowledge of training correctly and how to exercise.
Once I started training at Human it just fueled my passion for health and overall wellbeing. I love the structure of the CrossFit methodology and also the challenge. I was hooked on how style of training made me feel and saw a huge improvement in my self confidence and overall happiness with my body and what it could actually do. Health is such an important part of my life and I love sharing that with others.
My favourite aspect of training at Human is the people and the community. I have made friends for life. I could be having the worst day in the world and come in and be immediately boosted up. We have built such an amazing community of like-minded people who are so supportive and encouraging.
If I was stuck on a deserted island I feel I’d be able to cope without equipment. Hopefully there would be a little pop up bar! I love body weight exercises and feel you can still get an epic workout in. But if I did have to take one piece of equipment it would probably be a Dumbbell. So many things you can do with it.
I have always been very sporty and tried different things over the years. I played basketball all through highschool which I loved. Throughout my childhood I took part in Nippers at North Avoca Beach and was a Lifeguard in my teenage and early adult years.
Outside of the gym and training I love getting in the ocean, cooking and baking and walking my dog. I find walking super therapeutic and relaxing. I am also a huge plant mum and love my garden.
My favourite movie of all time would have to be the Lion King. Never gets old. Disney movies are the best.
If I only had one music album to listen to on a desert island it would have to be the BackStreet Boys. I know every word off by heart.
I have so many favourite foods. But anything peanut butter is the best! I have it on everything. YUM! I’m a sucker for ice cream too. And a good baked dinner!
Anyone new to Human and the CrossFit methodology is, just give it time and trust the process! Everyone has started somewhere and each day/week you will find you can do a little bit more or are getting a little bit stronger and can go a little bit further. Also don’t ever doubt yourself. Your own head is your worst enemy!
My training goals for 2021 is to always get stronger. But also I want to train my mind a little bit to be a bit kinder to myself.
I look to so many people around me for inspiration. My partner who has gone through some crazy life hurdles and has worked so hard to get to where he is today. My mum who has lost her husband and is so strong and resilient. All of the amazing strong women in my life!
My favourite quote would have to be “Just keep going. Good things are to come”.

I started training at Human Fitness in March 2018 and haven’t looked back ✌. I had been intrigued by the CrossFit methodology and followed the sport, but I was ready to train with other people who also enjoyed it like I did. Most importantly, I realised I had to be vulnerable and join a Box to discover what my weaknesses were and get proper Coaching.
When did you start training at Human Fitness?
I started training at Human Fitness in March 2018 and haven’t looked back ✌
What made you start?
I had been intrigued by the CrossFit methodology and followed the sport, but I was ready to train with other people who also enjoyed it like I did. Most importantly, I realised I had to be vulnerable and join a Box to discover what my weaknesses were and get proper Coaching.
How were you training before Human and the CrossFit methodology?
Before Human Fitness, I did some strength and conditioning with friends that we said was “CrossFit inspired”. Because I enjoyed it so much, I spent a lot of time at home by myself with a broomstick and YouTube learning movements.
What is your favourite aspect of training at Human?
When I see the Human community get excited about others successes, regardless of gender, age, background etc.
If you could take one piece of exercise equipment with you to a deserted island, what would it be and why?
Nothing beats playing with a heavy barbell, but they don’t sell suitcases for that. A Kettlebell and resistance band would be my ‘go to’, not just because they’re practical, but they provide endless variety- good for general health and longevity of training 👌
What other sports have you played or play and at what level?
I have played a lot of sport. Dancing, Swimming, Basketball, Tennis, Cricket, OzTag, Touch Football, Soccer, Cross Country, Athletics- Track and Field. I’ve played a range of them from club to state levels. I just love sport.
What other physical activities, if any, do you do outside of the Box?
I live on 7 acres, so sometimes work around the house keeps me physical. You’ll often find me in a season of Touch or Soccer. Otherwise, I like to walk, it is good for my head.
What is your favourite movie?
I have probably watched my favourite movie, forgotten it, and re-watched it again without knowing that I have already seen it. My memory for movies is shocking.
Is stranded on a deserted island, which album do you wish you had with you?
My music interest is so varied and dependant on my mood. I would have to compile my own playlist of country-indie-folk-rock-rap-RNB-pop. The only albums I’ve been able to listen to all the way through and enjoy each track are Boy and Bear- Moonfire and The Amity Affliction- Misery.
What is your favourite cuisine?
Is meat a cuisine?
What advice would you give to someone new to Human and the CrossFit methodology?
Just start. I waited years to even try a CrossFit specific facility because I thought I had to be ‘ready’. We all know what life is like, you will never be ‘ready’.
I have spent years trying to nail this down, because I believe it is essential to do so. I’m not there yet.
Who inspires you?
Kids, for their courage and ability to think outside the box. They provide those of us in the adult world with a wake up call.

I started training at human because I was looking for a community-based gym that offered structured programming and committed coaches. I love what the facility offers and have absolutely loved every class so far.
I started my fitness journey when I was 14, joining a Globo gym near my area when I was 14 where I attempted to teach myself things like Medball Cleans and to kip. Once I finally got my license, I found a Crossfit box and joined straight away. I have been doing CrossFit ever since.
“You’re either changing your life or you’re not. No waiting for this or that or other hurdles. Hurdles are the change.” Terri Guillements
I love the CrossFit methodology and the way that the human coaches passionately deliver it. I love the human community and the inclusive nature of the classes.
